I am a retired US Army MSG, an ex member of 6th PSYOP BN, and was the Opn NCO at the JFK center PSYOP Dept during the development of the PSYOP MOS and AIT (1984-87). For the first 11 years of my career I was a printer and in units that provided print support to PSYOPs, including leaflets for use in Viet Nam. I had the choice to convert to the PSYOP MOS (then 96F though I understand that has changed) but kept MOS 96B (Intel Analysist) as my primary (with PSYOP as secondary). I just found this site and am glad I did. I look forward to learning much from you all. Mike Staggs

Enjoy your visits here.

I am also a retired MSG (1966-1988) 96B5QW. I was stationed with the 6th PO Bn in 1966 with duty in Nha Trang with the 245th PO Co.  I was a HB Team NCO assigned/attached to the 2/7 Cav, 1 Cav Div in Phan Thiet.  The 1968 - 1969 with the 10th PO Bn in Can Tho assigned/attched to several units of the 9 ID in Dong Tam until I was wounded in Nov 1968.  Just wondering if our path ever crossed.  I did visit with CSM Bissontz, 4th Gp CSM (a former member of the 245th PO Co in Vietnam) at Ft Bragg in the early 80's when I was an active duty advisor to 2 PSYOP reserve units in Texas one was the 245th PO Co in Dallas the other was th2 244th  PO Co in Abbilene. site brings back memories which I had not thought of for a long time.  I was the admin NCO for the 6th psyop bn and 245th psywar in DaNang from '67 through '69.  Yes, two years.  I just kept extending and was able to take "vacations" to everywhere in SE Asia.  I remember playing ball across the river every day at the III MAF and the beer bottling plant a few blocks away from the hotel in Danang.  It was a strange career.  I eventually retired after 20 years and 1 day at age 38.  Got back to the states in 69 and became involved in JAGC, and they sent me to school for court reporting.  I did that my last 10 years, and continued on until this day in that field.  Never went to work for the government, but retired in Fairfax Virginia in 1984, and lived there until 3 years ago, and moved to Columbus, Ohio.

I remember great times in DaNang, though the hotel restaurant got to be a drag after a while with the same menu (namely, hot dogs, grilled cheese).  Used to get separate rations allowance and used to eat at III MAF every day basically.  Dropping leaflets from C-47s, and the two-seater props, and the field of course, but chu hoi to all.

I ended up with four tours in Vietnam altogether.  1965-66 First Cav in An Khe 11Bravo, then Danang for two years, and then AFN in Pleiku because of my 71R MOS in '71, and scrambling to Saigon because we were going to be overrun.
