In 1942, Sefton Delmer, head of the German black propaganda
section of the British Political Warfare Executive (PWE) devised the first
disguised booklet to assist Germans to fake illness to get out of military
service and compulsory factory work. As the war progressed PWE's forger, Ellic Howe, produced the malingerers
booklets in a variety of different disguises, the most famous being
called Krankheit rettet - Illness Saves by Doctor Do Good.

The booklet informed its reader how to simulate a multitude
of different illnesses and diseases from a simple throat infection to
tuberculosis.
Secret agents of the Special Operations Executive (SOE)
covertly disseminated the subversive text across Europe and the Middle East,
in fact anywhere German troops were stationed. Specially designed balloons from their base in Kent, England, also launched the malingering booklets off
on their nefarious journey.

The Germans considered it such a dangerous piece of
propaganda they reproduced parts of the text in English as leaflets and
dropped them over Allied lines in Italy. Sefton Delmer thought that was the ultimate
compliment for his team's work.
Now for the first time the complete text with
contemporary illustrations and a preface by Lee Richards is available in
English on CD-ROM.

As a bonus it also includes the English text of
another of Sefton Delmer's famous black propaganda booklets, The NSV Heals... Bomb
Shock. The CD will run on either a PC or Mac computer, the translations
are in Adobe PDF format, the latest Adobe Reader, (PC version only), is
included on the disk.
