Research Unit F.2 – Radio Inconnue: Object, Method and Effect

This Political Warfare Executive report is an appraisal of the object, method and effect of the clandestine radio station known as F.2 – Radio Inconnue, broadcasting to Occupied France.

Its object is to create confusion and discord inside the Vichy administration, between Vichy and the Germans, and to act as general purveyor of rumours likely to create such effects.

There are six transmissions daily, three of which are repeats. Transmission times are based mainly on maximum audiences. Provided there is a transmission in the morning, midday and in the evening, there is little to be said for any particular time.

Voices used: one male, two female.

Normally all material is recorded, and there is no reason why this method should be changed.

Repetitions are purely for audibility reasons.

F.2 uses all sibs that reasonably fit within its programme.

Recently there has been little evidence of reception of F.2. In previous years, however, a large number of sib campaigns carried out on F.2 have been extremely successful; including the Banque Worms, the Synarchiste Movement and the Complot Petain-Laval.
