Ft Ritchie, MD
« on: October 08, 2013, 11:09:38 AM »
A friend of mine is compiling all the graduates of the MIS Interrogator and other classes from Ft Ritchie in WWII. He shared this snippet with me because one of his students had been in the Norwegian/American Battalion I'm researching.

He was a member of Hitler Jugend, a Ritchie Boy (Class 4), attached to the Viking Battalion, and won a Silver Star Medal.

Master Sergeant Bernhard G. F. Edgar, (ASN: 32345686), MIS, attached to HQ, 4th Infantry Division, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States in Normandy, France, on 14 June 1944. The initiative and courage displayed by this enlisted man reflects great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States. (Entered the military service from New York).

Bernhardt G. F. Ornstein was born in Germany in 1921; from 1932-1936, he was a member of the Hitler Jugend. He entered the U.S. in May 1942, was inducted on 5/29/42 and arrived at Camp Ritchie on 1/6/43 with knowledge of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and French. Between 3/13/43 and 4/20/43 he was a member of HQ Co. of the 99th Inf Bn at Camp Hale. He returned to Camp Ritchie and graduated with the 4th Class (IPW-Ge). He changed his name to Bernhard G. F. Edgarr [later Edgar] and became a naturalized citizen in June 1943 at Frederick, MD.

If anyone is interested in the Ritchie Boys for their research I would be glad to introduce you to my friend.   Erik

Many thanks for posting the above Erik. It would be great to know more about the exploits of the Ritchie Boys.
I've seen the film made about Ft Ritchie but that's about it as far as my knowledge is concerned.

I'm particularly interested in any Ritchie boys involved in the production of Morale Operations leaflets in German.
