Title: IFBU in Burma 1945
Post by: lmbona on August 31, 2017, 04:37:59 AM
Hi I'm helping my dad, who served with the British Army in Burma/India in 1944/45. He was a radio operator with Force 136, and Indian Field Broadcasting Unit. This is one of the few websites that I've found any information, and would love to find out more for him to read. anybody got any interest in this area? He tells me that many documents were destroyed before they left to come home, so maybe that is why there is so little info. Even the British Ministry of Defence can't find much in his service record.
Thanks

Hi, do you happen to know which specific IFBU he served in and the dates he was with them? Brief war diaries do exist in SOE records.

If you can send me his name by PM or email I can see if there is a personal file available for him at the National Archives, although that is unlikely.

Also if he has any photos or recollections to share, we'd be fascinated to see them.

A nice personal account by an officer in Force 136 is 'Burmese Outpost' by Anthony Irwin, Collins, 1946. I don't think he talks about the IFBU though.
