To the Workers of Western Germany!
Europe is dark with misery and death. Who is responsible?
Eight years ago millions of you were unemployed. Then Hitler gave you work; you began to build planes, bombs, and tanks for him. In the seven years after his seizure of power Hitler spent 90,000,000,000 marks of Germany's money on armaments – four times as much as England spent in the same period. No wonder there was WORK FOR ALL. That is how you spent seven years preparing this war – Hitler's total war.
And when Hitler finally started his war, you didn't worry much. While you still kept your jobs in the factories, in towns like Warsaw and Rotterdam workers with their wives and children – people like yourselves – were being killed and maimed by German bombs. As far as you were concerned, the war was far away, in other people's homes.
Soon you will learn for yourselves – as the workers of Warsaw, Rotterdam, London, Coventry, and Belgrade have learned before you – just what total war is like. We, the Anglo-American fighting partnership, have sworn to fight until the men who sought and started total war, and are now profiting so handsomely by it, are finally dealt with. The British and American giant bombers, and the new British bomb – whose blasting power is five times as great as that of any bomb – will hammer into even the stupidest of you some idea what it's all about.
How much longer do you want to stand by whilst your Fatherland is annihilated bit by bit in Hitler's war, whilst your workshops – in which you will have to earn your living in peacetime too – collapse one after another in ruins? YOU helped, with your labour in your factories and workshops, to prepare Hitler's total war. You can also help to bring it sooner to an end.
What are you going to do about it?
